The Comic Den Store Featured in Online Series: A Milestone for the Community

The Comic Den has officially stepped into the spotlight, and it’s a moment worth celebrating. Our store was chosen as the filming location for The Comic Shop, a workplace comedy web series created by Cheyenne Ewulu, known online as Cheyenne the Geek. The series premiered on YouTube in August 2025 and brings a mix of humor, heart, and real-life comic shop energy to the screen.

For us, it’s a proud reflection of what comic culture represents. The Comic Den stands as a Black-owned comic book store in Ladera Heights, Los Angeles, and seeing our shelves, counters, and community spirit come alive in The Comic Shop means everything to those who believe in what comics can do.

The show follows a quirky crew trying to keep their comic shop alive, and that energy mirrors the reality of small, passionate comic spaces like ours. Cheyenne wanted to film in a real comic store that felt lived-in, one that reflected genuine culture and community. Her choice to feature The Comic Den was a recognition of that authenticity, and we couldn’t be prouder to represent that atmosphere on screen.

When Cheyenne first walked into The Comic Den, our doors had been open for barely three weeks. She explored the aisles, flipped through issues, and saw something that aligned with her vision, a community-first space with heart. She asked owner Josef Woods, affectionately called Joe, how he’d feel about hosting the production. The rest, as they say, is comic book history in motion.

Josef built The Comic Den from years of experience, passion, and resilience. Growing up in Watts, California, he discovered early on that comic books could be more than stories, they could be lifelines. Through heroes like Superman and Miles Morales, Josef found hope, imagination, and purpose. That same belief drives the mission behind The Comic Den: to use comics as a source of empowerment for youth, to amplify Black and ethnic creators, and to create a space where creativity can thrive.

The Comic Den store featured in online series has quickly become a headline across local outlets, pop culture platforms, and social media. What makes it special is that it’s not just about the exposure—it’s about recognition for the entire comic community. Comic shops are more than retail spaces; they’re cultural anchors that connect readers, artists, and dreamers. They are the places where stories are shared, friendships begin, and imagination never fades.

That sense of community is at the core of both The Comic Shop series and The Comic Den itself. Cheyenne’s vision of authentic storytelling found a perfect home here. The partnership stands as an example of how collaboration between artists and local comic oriented businesses can produce something meaningful. It also shows how Black creators and entrepreneurs continue to shape the future of entertainment and comic culture together.

Small businesses like ours play a huge role in local life. As SBA Pacific Regional Administrator Steven Snow said, independently owned stores “serve as gathering places for the community and provide welcoming spaces where neighbors can connect.” That’s the goal we live by every day. The energy inside The Comic Den feels electric when comic lovers gather, talk about new releases, and share their excitement for what’s next.

We’ve also seen a surge of visitors who discovered us through the series. Many come curious, wanting to see the store from the show, and end up staying to browse, talk comics, and become part of our growing family. It’s rewarding to watch a piece of entertainment inspire real-world connection.
